Sujet : Scène à l’intérieur d’une habitation, avec une femme nue assise et deux petits enfants. Un homme nu, couvert de tatouages, tient la femme au poignet, commence à la tatouer, et un second homme, également tatoué, entrant dans la porte de la cabane, tient une tête de porc comme cadeau pour le tatoueur. Il y a plusieurs ornements ou des outils contre le mur arrière de la maison. Le baron Von Langsdorff a accompagné Krusenstern dans son voyage à travers le monde, en visitant Nuku Hiva en 1804. Cette gravure a été publiée dans l’ouvrage de Langsdorff, mais pas dans l’ouvrage de Krusenstern.

Scene inside a dwelling, with a seated naked woman and two small children. A naked man covered with tattoos is holding the woman by the wrist, beginning to tattoo her, and a second man, also tattooed, entering the door of the hut, is holding a pig’s head as a present for the tattooist. There are several ornaments or tools against the back wall of the house.

Historical Notes: Baron von Langsdorff accompanied Krusenstern on his voyage around the world, visiting Nukuhiva in 1804. This illustration was published in Langsdorff’s acount of the voyage, but not in Krusenstern’s.
